A Co-living House For Families With Disabled Children
A through back to the competition proposal done back in 2011
Today I thought of showing a really old project which we've done with my husband while studying at Uni. That was a student competition just amongst our faculty held by a local association of families with special children.
These people gathered to support each other and at some point they've decided to build a co-living for themselves. Unfortunately I don't know if they've managed to build the house or not but I really hope they did.
To make the most out of their land we've pushed the l-shaped house closer to the borders of the site, opening up the free space for gardening, sports and other outdoor activities.
We were touched by these brave and kind people fighting for a better life for their disabled children, which are far too often remaining deprived and forgotten.
The house itself is very simple with service&education block (kitchen, library, teachers' bedrooms), block of flats and a common space between them.
This project remains being very important to me, I've even got back to it at some point and made some changes – added skylights to the flats' block corridor and some tweaks to the facades.
